How a steam locomotive works:A locomotive is a bit like a big pressure cooker.The coal provides the energy to heat the water stored inside the locomotive. The boiling water turns into steam that causes the pistons to move. The steam pushes the pistons first one way and then the other to produce a constant to-and-fro movement that causes the locomotive's wheels to turn through a system of connecting rods. A steam locomotive is a delicate machine that railway workers are very fond of. It requires a special set of skills that are increasingly rare these days. The large Pacific class locomotive used on the Trieux Steam Railway takes around 4 hours to "warm up" in the morning when it is cold (when the fire has gone out) and 3 hours to warm up in the morning when it has been operating the day before. |

A magician on the train The magician Tino Oudin will amaze passengers on the platform at Paimpol and Pontrieux stations with various magic tricks half an hour before the trains depart. He will also come round the coaches during the journey.This event takes place every Saturday from 7 July to 25 August, at no extra cost. |
